They say college prepares you for the real world. Well, if that is true then if a zombie attack should happen I am prepared. Every year Malone holds its annual game of “Humans versus Zombies.” This past week, Malone students have been running around campus with green headbands and Nurf guns. During this week, you must come to terms that at any given moment, you could be caught in the midst of a HVZ battle. However, watching these battles provides quite the entertainment. I will admit the battle that took place outside my Philosophy class window captured my attention a little more the Descartes! (You can get all of the details of the game here.)
Well if students running around shooting Nurf guns wasn’t surprising, seeing a student walking around looking like a lawn gnome would do the trick. On Thursday, Malone held the Annual Annual Gigana-Hugana Banana Split Eating Contest. This event is a fundraiser for the Stark County Hunger Task Force. Teams of students have a theme—they dress up, perform a skit, and then compete against each other. Where do the banana splits come in? Along with the performance, teams race to see who can eat the most banana splits. The catch? They cannot use their hands. This event is a blast to be a part of and watch! It is hilariously messy, but for a great cause! Congratulations to this year’s winner: The girls of Heritage Hall with their theme of “Lawn Ornaments!”
I love all of these random, awesome traditions Malone has. It is events like these that make Malone unique. It has been quite an exciting week here at Malone, but after it is all said and done, the Zombies are gone and the ice cream is all cleaned up… that is until next year!
